PTFE - Polytetrafluoroethylene products, PTFE (TFE) as well as Kynar-PVDF manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar that is mined in Mongolia and China. The world requirement for this mineral has increased significantly, and the supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance and extremely low co-efficient of friction (slippery) and is used throughout dozens of applications from non-stick fry griddles to ptfe tape for home use. This particular mineral is the critical raw material in the production of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and quite a few refrigerants. This rise in demand paired with general shortage of raw materials is responsible for a dramatic price increase (almost double in the last year), shortages, and we expect both these factors to stay in affect in the near future.
